San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan might have moved on from his unceremonious exit from the Toronto Raptors, but the four-time All-Star believes that he always has a target on his back.

DeRozan, who will be facing his former team for the first time on Thursday night, feels that he has always been doubted. He revealed that he had to fight through it in his entire career.

“I've always been put in the toughest position,” DeRozan said via Jabari Young of The Athletic. “Always counted out, doubted some type of way. Had to fight through the stigma or whatever that was placed on me.”

DeMar DeRozan envisioned spending his entire career with the Raptors, showing loyalty to the organization for nine seasons. However, the Raptors surprisingly dealt him, along with Jakob Poeltl and a 2019 first-round pick, to San Antonio in exchange for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green last summer.

DeRozan admitted that the trade took him by surprise, and he felt that he was placed in another tough situation. But six months into his stint with the Spurs, he strongly believes that it was some sort of a blessing in disguise. The All-Star guard is glad that he is still in a position where he can get better in the upcoming chapters of his NBA career.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich knew that they were getting a talented scorer when the blockbuster trade was finalized. However, he did not expect that DeRozan will fit into their team and become a great teammate easily.

DeMar DeRozan is still one of the deadliest scorers in the league, averaging 22.9 points nightly on 47.7 percent shooting from the field. He is also posting career-highs with 6.5 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game for San Antonio this season.
