San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is expected to return to the bench for Friday's game against the Brooklyn Nets, according to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News.
Spurs legend Tim Duncan coached the team on Tuesday versus the Charlotte Hornets. Popovich was away from the club for personal reasons.
San Antonio defeated the Hornets in Duncan's coaching debut, but the future Hall of Famer is ready to give the reins back to Popovich:
As @tom_orsborn reported yesterday, Gregg Popovich is expected to return to the bench for Friday's game against Brooklyn. Hearing he is already in New York and prepared to re-assume his spot in "the big boy chair," as acting coach Tim Duncan called it.

The Spurs are 26-34 on the season. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings and have a lot of work to do if they want to make the playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season.
It’s still strange to see Duncan as an assistant coach, but Spurs and NBA fans as a whole are glad he’s doing it so we get to hear from The Big Fundamental from time to time.
In 1,392 games with the Spurs, Duncan averaged 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 50.6 percent from the field. He won five rings, two regular-season MVP awards and three Finals MVPs with San Antonio.

This year’s Spurs squad could use some help from Duncan, as they are in danger of missing the postseason for the first time since 1997.
