It has been a rough trip back from the quad injury for San Antonio Spurs superstar Kawhi Leonard. However, it seems he has finally turned the corner to getting back to his normal, dominant self. At least, that is how head coach Gregg Popovich feels.

Leonard had his best all-around performance in the Spurs' 103-89 win over the Phoenix Suns with 21 points, four steals, and three blocks. Needless to say, Popovich is pleased with how well he has progressed over the past few weeks since making his 2017-18 NBA season debut, according to Paul Garcia of ProjectSpurs:

“Kawhi’s looked more and more like himself every game.”

The Spurs took an extra cautious route with Kawhi Leonard's return and have maintained that path upon his return. The former two-time Defensive Player of the Year still has yet to take part in a back-to-back. In fact, he still has yet to suit up unless he has had at least two days rest before the next game.

That said, it seems San Antonio is not taking any chances on Leonard potentially reaggravating his quad injury. As a result, it has taken him a bit longer to get accustomed to game speed and conditioning.

Fortunately, he has made tremendous strides as of late after strong performances against the Suns and New York Knicks. Given how careful Gregg Popovich has been up to this point, it could still be awhile before Kawhi Leonard assumes his usual heavy workload on a nightly basis. “The Klaw” is currently averaging 15.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals nightly in the seven games he has played since making his return.
