The San Antonio Spurs recently mourned the loss of one of their own, Rasual Butler, who died in a tragic car crash along with his wife on Wednesday at 38 years old. The NBA journeyman made his last stop with the San Antonio Spurs in 2015-16 — the last of eight teams he played for during his 13-year career.
Head coach Gregg Popovich expressed his most sincere condolences and reminded those present to cherish the moments they have with each other in this league, as people can come and go in the blink of an eye.
“Just another lesson in how short life can be and how important it is to enjoy each other,” Popovich said, according to Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News. “The sadness is just the same for all of us. … It’s always a shock, always a loss, but much more so to their own families. And obviously his wife was with him, which makes it even more tragic.”

Longtime veteran guard Manu Ginobili noted Butler's character — a man who had made his living as a bench player in the NBA.
“We had him briefly, it was less than a season, but you could already tell the type of demeanor he had toward his teammates,” Ginobili said. “He was a great guy. It is sad to lose a teammate and somebody your age that you shared things with. It was a tough day.”
Butler played 46 games for the Spurs, averaging 2.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per game before calling it a career in 2016.
