San Antonio Spurs shooting guard DeMar DeRozan missed his third consecutive game on Tuesday, but the All-Star guard says he's feeling the best he has in weeks and that he's trying to be smart with his body.

DeRozan is dealing with a sore left knee. The Spurs' leading scorer says he would be playing if this was a couple years ago, but now that he's in San Antonio, he's listening to head coach Gregg Popovich and the training staff, and taking a long-term look at the season.

“I'm feeling good,” DeRozan said, via Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express News. “I'm feeling better than I have in weeks. A couple of years ago, I'd be playing. Just trying to be smart (now).

“Down the road, I don't want to have anything nagging or bugging me. I want to be as fresh as possible down the stretch. I want to take advantage of as many days as I can to feel better. Playing it smart, and, at the same time, we are playing well.

“We also have the (All-Star) break coming up, so I can take advantage of that as well. “Like I said, just trying to be smart about it, so I can feel like myself.”

In his first season with the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan has been great. The four-time All-Star is averaging 21.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field.

If San Antonio wants to go on a deep playoff run, they will need DeRozan at 100 percent and to play at a high-level. It's better to rest him now so he doesn't have any nagging injuries once the postseason starts.
