The San Antonio Spurs are sitting atop a fluid situation with NBA All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard strongly desiring a move from the franchise this offseason. It has put forth much interest across the league in his services, but there has yet to be any serious movement toward a trade being worked out.

According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, potentially interested teams are more interested in his long-term commitment than his current health situation.

There is a growing notion that Leonard has his eyes solely fixated on getting to Los Angeles to preferably play with the Los Angeles Lakers, but there is interest in the possibility of playing for the L.A. Clippers. This has generated some hesitation from teams to move forward with a lucrative offer if there is a strong chance that it could wind up being a one-year rental situation.

Leonard certainly possesses the talent that would warrant a lofty offer, but it is widely expected that he will hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent next summer where there will be several teams attempting to sign him to a lucrative deal. His health doesn't carry as much of a concern even more so given that he is seriously considering attending Team USA minicamp next week in Las Vegas.

It is a situation with overwhelming attention toward his long-term commitment that played a significant part in the trade talks hitting a lull over the last few weeks. All of this hinges on what he wants to do in this next chapter of his career in terms of where he wants to play. If he's willing to ink a multi-year deal with another team outside of Los Angeles, it could certainly change things in the matter. Until then, it is a sticking point for why this continues to linger on.
