The Toronto Raptors are projected to get a major boost by bringing in one of the league's top talents in Kawhi Leonard after a blockbuster trade with the San Antonio Spurs.
Based on NBA analyst Jacob Goldstein's projected win totals, the Raptors will be a feather shy of eight wins better than their projection before the trade, which would put them even ahead of last season's franchise-record 59 wins. The Raptors were previously projected to win 53.8 games next season with DeMar DeRozan and Jakob Poeltl on the roster, and now they are likely to eclipse the 60-win mark for the first time in franchise history with Leonard and Danny Green instead:
Updated win projection's from today's Kawhi-DDR trade:
Spurs: -8.0 to 38.7 projected wins
Raptors: +7.9 to 61.7 projected wins— Jacob Goldstein (@JacobEGoldstein) July 18, 2018

On the other hand, the Spurs are projected to take a massive fall and be in real danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in 22 years, with their projected win total now lowered to 38.7 wins in 2018-19.
This steep decline is likely due to the adjustment to the system (always tough on a team as precise as the Spurs), and the fact that DeRozan's affinity for mid-range jumpers and lack of 3-point prowess is going away from the way the league has trended over the last few years.
The Raptors' progress is hinging on Leonard having a clean physical and being able to put up the same numbers he did when healthy. He is still just 27 years old and entering his prime.
