For a very long time, the reigning NBA champions have had the tradition of visiting the White House after their title win. However, that has not happened over the past two years due to political issues with President Donald Trump. Now, Danny Green of the newly-crowned NBA champion Toronto Raptors apparently wants to make it three.
Green spoke about the prospect of visiting the White House on Yahoo Sports' Inside the Green Room and said that he — in a polite manner — will decline any kind of invite.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were the last NBA champion team to make the visit back in 2016 — Barack Obama's final year as United States president. The Golden State Warriors elected to boycott the routine visit in the years that they won back-to-back.

Trump, however, is reportedly open to having the Canadian-based squad over should they want to. However, the president has not extended an invitation yet. Regardless, it appears like Green is satisfied with not making the trip at all.
On the other hand, the Raptors have confirmed that they will celebrate their historic championship victory with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the Parliament Hill in Ottawa. They are, after all, Canada's darling team of the modern era.
Many professional athletes, including NBA players, have called out and voiced their criticisms over Trump's actions and words — which led to champion teams boycotting the prestigious visit. According to a report by Business Insider, only ten out of the 20 major sports champion teams over Trump's term have celebrated their win in the White House.
