Former Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey was happy to see the team win its first-ever NBA Championship.

In an interview with the Associated Press, per ESPN, Casey said that it's nice to see some of the guys he once coached win the title, something that they were not able to do when he was manning the sidelines in Toronto.

“It was exciting. It was good to see. To see a guy like Kyle Lowry, kid like Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet and those guys — Serge Ibaka, guys I coached — win. It was really thrilling, because I know that was a goal going in with that group, and to see them win it was great.”

Casey was fired by the Raptors last year after the team got swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season. He was then replaced by assistant coach Nick Nurse.

However, Casey didn't find himself jobless for long, as he was hired by the Detroit Pistons as their head coach. In his first year with the team, he helped them clinch the eighth seed in the East, though they eventually lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.

Although it's already been a year since he was relieved of his duties as Raptors coach, part of Casey is still in Toronto, and he's happy that the city was able to finally win an elusive title.
