As the Toronto Raptors look for a new coach to replace Dwane Casey, the team has interviewed a couple of San Antonio Spurs assistants, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
San Antonio Spurs assistant coaches Ettore Messina and Ime Udoka interviewed with the Toronto Raptors for the franchise's head coaching job on Thursday and Friday, respectively, league sources told ESPN.
Ettore Messina and Ime Udoka both spent a full day respectively with the club giving their pitches on why they should be the next coach.
According to Wojnarowski, they join three in-house candidates Nick Nurse, Rex Kalamian, and their current G-League coach Jerry Stackhouse who have all interviewed for the job.
According to ESPN sources, if they do decide to go with someone that's within the organization, it will probably be Nurse who ends up getting the nod.
Article Continues BelowMessina and Udoka have both made the rounds so far this offseason, interviewing for just about every opening, but so far no one has pulled the trigger with either of them.
Messina is one of the most well-respected assistant coaches in the league, and most believe it will only be a matter of time before he does get a nod to become a head coach.
Before coming over to the Spurs, Messina was one of the best European coaches ever. He has four EuroLeague titles under his belt and has coached some of the best European teams.
Messina has been a part of coach Gregg Popovich's staff since 2014 but has really started to get serious looks as a head coach this offseason.
Who the Raptors decide to go with is still to be seen, but either of these guys would be good choices.
