The Toronto Raptors and two-way player Jordan Loyd have “mutually parted ways,” per Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun.
The reigning champs open a roster spot by waiving the 26-year-old Loyd, according to The Athletic's Blake Murphy. Loyd, a 6-foot-4 point guard, only appeared in 12 games during the 2018-19 season with Toronto, mostly finding time with the G-League affiliate Raptors 905.
Instead of entering his second year as a two-way player, Loyd and the Raptors opted to allow the guard to find an opportunity overseas rather than be contracted to the generally benign G-League deal that comes with being a two-way player.
Loyd is signing with Valencia Basket in the Spanish Liga ACB and EuroLeague, Sportando's Emiliano Carchia reports.
Loyd, who the Raptors signed after he went undrafted in 2016 out of the University of Indianapolis, was the only two-way player signed by Toronto. Thus, now both spots are open for the Raptors to explore signing potentially unheralded talent that need more time in the NBA's developmental league with a window of opportunity to the big league.
Loyd scored 29 points in 55 minutes of NBA action in 2018-19, making 8-of-18 field goal attempts. With the Raptors 905, Loyd averaged 22.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game in 41 appearances, shooting 48.1% from the floor, 36.7% from deep, and 86.2% from the free throw line.
