The bad blood between DeMar DeRozan and Toronto Raptors front office is palpable. More specifically, DeRozan takes issue with the president of basketball operations in Toronto, Masai Ujiri. DeRozan clearly feels he was wronged and his relationship with Ujiri is over.
According to Josh Lewenberg of TSN Sports, DeRozan sees no reason to maintain contact with Ujiri. DeRozan said:
“It's done. There's no reason to have a relationship.”
The trade that sent DeRozan to the San Antonio Spurs was dramatic from the start. The initial rift was between Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs, but after the fact, DeRozan's anger towards the Raptors seems to be the bigger story.
Article Continues BelowLeonard, Gregg Popovich and everyone else involved from San Antonio is ready to move forward and put the past behind them. Of course, there is sure to be bruised egos and hurt feelings on both sides. But that aspect of the trade is overshadowed by DeRozan's scorn.
The four-time All-Star doesn't even plan to speak with Ujiri ever again. If that's not cutting off a relationship entirely, I don't know what is.
The NBA schedule has not been released yet, but you can bet that DeRozan will have his return to Toronto circled on the calendar. That will be his best chance to stick it to Toronto's front office and more specifically, Masai Ujiri.
Perhaps the NBA will give the fans what they want. A marquee matchup between the teams on opening night or a Christmas day matchup.
