Two months after helping the Toronto Raptors win its first-ever NBA championship, veteran point guard Kyle Lowry is now part of Team USA's training camp roster, hoping that he'll make it to the squad that will head to China to compete in the FIBA World Cup.
But Lowry is not playing for fame and recognition. For him, having a chance to suit up for the national team has a bigger purpose, and that's his motivation right now.

Team USA initially had players like Anthony Davis, James Harden, and Damian Lillard on their roster, but these guys, along with a few other players, have decided to withdraw their commitment in order to focus on their respective teams' campaign this upcoming season.

Now, the men's national basketball team is being dubbed as one of the weakest rosters ever assembled.
But Lowry and his teammates are still pretty confident about their chances in the FIBA World Cup. For him, what the team lacks in terms of star power is filled by the determination and hard work of the individuals who are on the team right now. They know that things aren't going to be a walk in the park for them in the FIBA World Championships, but they're going to do everything that they can to lead the national team to the championship.
Lowry is familiar with this kind of situation. Last season, the Raptors have been labeled as underdogs against the Golden State Warriors prior to the start of the NBA Finals, but Toronto has made an emphatic statement by beating Golden State in six games to claim the title.
Now, he's looking to do the same thing with Team USA.
