Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell has taken the NBA by storm with his strong play, highlight dunks and general surprising demeanor for a rookie in the most prestigious league in the world.
Mitchell will play in the Rising Stars game. Pretty good for a rookie.
But on his actual team, Mitchell has already made franchise history. He recently broke the team record for three-pointers made in a season for a rookie. And per the official Twitter account of the Jazz, that's not all he's done as a rookie.
So…
Donovan broke the Jazz rookie record for made threes in a season.
He’s the first rookie with at least six 30+ point showings through 50 games since 2010-11 (Blake Griffin).
AND he set a new rookie record for made threes in a game with seven.
SHEESH. #TakeNote

“Sheesh” is a very good way to react to those stats, especially for Jazz fans everywhere. And to think, so many other teams could have had him on their rosters.
Mitchell was picked 13th in the NBA Draft last summer. That's still in the lottery. But after 50 or so games of this current NBA season, it's easy to see that Mitchell should have been taken much, much higher than 13th.
But revisionist history will say that about almost every player in the draft, with the exception of a few. For example, everyone thinks LeBron James should've been taken first overall.
But Mitchell having a breakout rookie season has been fun for the NBA and its fans. And usually rookies are not as well-rounded as Mitchell. But he has shown that he can do it all on the offensive end, including shoot threes.
Time will tell what Mitchell becomes over time, but it's safe to say the Jazz have a gem right now.
