Players and coaches from all around the NBA are chiming in on the NCAA scandal, and whether or not college athletes should be paid to play sports for schools that rake in millions of dollars off their likenesses and jerseys sales.
Recently, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green added his two cents to the discussion.
He said college athletes are “getting screwed” and that they are finally understanding the inequality that exists in the entire system. Green also touched on his own thoughts about graduating from Michigan State, per Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports.

I think it’s one of the best accomplishments in my life, to walk across that stage and graduate from Michigan State. I think it’s one of the best things that I’ve done. But in saying that, what you get for a college education doesn’t equal near what these kids are bringing to the university. …That’s where the corruption is. You’re bringing in so much money to the university, but then you have (agents) trying to pay you, to just give you money so that if you’re broke – which most kids are – logically you would think, ‘Well, why can’t I take this money?’ They’re taking it from me, so why can’t I take this money?”
People have long known that many college athletes get paid extra from coaches or agents, at times because they need extra money for food or books or other things. Many don't believe that it's wrong for athletes to take money under these circumstances.
Green touches on the fact that colleges profit immensely from the best players, but those players get nothing in return other than their education. That's great but oftentimes, it's not enough because these men come from less fortunate socioeconomic backgrounds, and a free education does not help buy food or clothing or help their families that may be struggling.
With the conversation about the issue at seemingly an all-time high, it appears something will change this time around.
