Isaiah Thomas got yet another shot at redemption by agreeing to a deal with the Washington Wizards. The Wizards were fresh off trading point guard Tomas Satoransky in a sign-and-trade with the Chicago Bulls and soon found themselves in need of a point guard with John Wall out.
David Aldridge of The Athletic asked Thomas why he picked the Wizards to continue his career after failed stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets. His response was succinct:
“Opportunity!!!! (actual number of exclamation points) That’s all I wanted, I’ll do the rest!”
Thomas might just get the right opportunity in the nation's capital after striking out the last two seasons following a hip surgery that derailed his ascent as one of the most prominent talents in the league.
Article Continues BelowIn 2016-17, Thomas finished third in the scoring race with 28.9 points per game with the Boston Celtics, preparing to get the proverbial Brink's truck his way to cash in on his best season to date. But that truck never came, and the Celtics pounced on the opportunity to snatch Kyrie Irving (we saw how that worked out) and traded Thomas to the Cavs.
The 5-foot-9 dynamo spent the majority of his time in Cleveland recovering, only playing 15 games before getting traded to the Lakers. His time there didn't reap many fruits either, soon left to figure out his future.
Thomas signed with the Nuggets last summer and played only 12 games after head coach Mike Malone did not want to disturb his stellar bench, making this Thomas' fifth team in the last few years.
