The NBA has granted the Washington Wizards an $8.6 million Disabled Player Exception, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Watch Stadium.
The Wizards lost All-Star point guard John Wall for the season after Wall was forced to undergo season-ending surgery on his left heel.

There isn't a guarantee the Wizards will use this exception. As Fred Katz of The Athletic points out, if Washington uses the $8.6 million, the franchise would be taking on major tax dollars.

The Wizards entered Thursday with a record of 20-26, good for 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings. The team is just 2.0 games back of the Miami Heat for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.
Shooting guard Bradley Beal has put the team on his back since John Wall went down. The sharpshooter is averaging 24.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game on the season while shooting 46.7 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 79.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Rumors are that Washington has no plans to trade Beal at the Feb. 7 trade deadline. The Wizards supposedly still want to make the playoffs this season, and keeping Beal is the only way that will happen.
Otto Porter Jr., though, could be on the move and he is being pursued by multiple teams in the Western Conference.
