UConn women's basketball player Jana El Alfy has suffered an Achilles tendon injury, according to Maggie Vanoni of Hearst.

Jana El Alfy was with the Egypt U19 team, and playing very well before her injury. The UConn women's basketball program has not released any details on her injury, but she is reportedly flying directly from Spain to the United States for surgery, according to Vanoni.

El Alfy arrived at UConn in the middle of last season, but did not play in any games. She practiced with Geno Auriemma's team in order to prepare for the 2023-2024 season. Now, it seems that her season is in jeopardy.

Geno Auriemma has dealt with a lot of injuries to his team over the last two seasons. Star Paige Bueckers missed all of last season with a torn ACL, and missed significant time the year before. Luckily, Paige Bueckers is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Azzi Fudd has missed time in each of her first two seasons. With Bueckers out last season, Azzi Fudd was supposed to fill in and do much of the scoring. Caroline Ducharme has had concussion issues as well.

Ice Brady, who was a freshman last season, missed the whole season last year as well. It was a blow to UConn's frontcourt. Luckily Ice Brady should be ready to play for this season.

The injury to El Alfy is significant. UConn lost Dorka Juhasz to the WNBA this offseason, and El Alfy could have been part of the team's frontcourt depth.

The Huskies should be strong once again this season, but this injury adds to the long list of injuries that have hurt the program over the last couple of years.
