One of the hardest things service schools need to overcome is any type of turnover. That's for both on-the-field play as well as who is coaching the teams. Whenever a coach, assistant or head, begins to have any form of success at one of those programs, others are quick to try to poach them.

It is why the latest Army news is pretty monumental, relatively speaking, as it has come to an agreement with coach Jeff Monken to keep him around a bit longer.

Here is a statement released by Army to announce the contract extension:

“Jeff has been the right fit for the Army West Point football team since his arrival and this extension is a natural progression.” Army athletic director Boo Corrigan said. “In addition to building a winning program on the field, Jeff and his staff, including our Officer Representatives, believe strongly in the academy's larger mission of developing leaders of character to lead the U.S. Army. We're excited that Jeff will continue to lead our football program in the years to come.”

The terms of the deal have not yet been released, but what is important is that the coach is staying put.

While program doesn't have the most impressive win-loss record during his tenure, Monken is doing the best with what he has.  He is in his fourth year at Army and has a 16-23 record.

Again, not great, though expectations are placed on a curve for a place such as Army.

Last season, the Black Knights beat Navy for the first time since 2001 (likely a huge reason for the extension) and won a bowl game for the first time in six seasons, beating North Texas in the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl.

The Black Knights (2-0) visit No. 8 Ohio State (1-1) on Saturday.
