New Florida State Seminoles coach Mike Norvell hasn't spoken to wide receiver DJ Matthews since the young man's COVID-19 tweet a little while back.
How do we know this? Tickle me glad you asked, as the FSU coach said so himself in a recent dilly.
“I haven’t talked to D.J. in a little while,” Florida State Seminoles coach Mike Norvell said Friday. “I know he’s working through that process.”
The Florida State coach also admitted the Jacksonville product isn't currently with the team, which has naturally led to wild conspiracy theories from fans on message boards. Nonetheless, none of those can be confirmed and are most likely random conjecture — the type in which people prefer to purposely dance in the mud.
It's certainly worth noting that DJ Matthews, in a now deleted tweet, claimed he caught COVID-19.
“Damn I tested positive for COVID. Y’all be safe an where y’all mask,” Florida State Seminoles receiver DJ Matthews wrote in a tweet posted on Aug. 12. The post was later deleted.
For context as to why it's a big deal: Matthews' comments came after Warren Thompson claimed Mike Norvell lied to the youngster numerous times; though the Florida State Seminoles coach has adamantly denied the allegations.
Nevertheless, the Mike Norvell era in Florida State is off to an interesting start — although fans will likely only care about whatever issues off the field if the Seminoles perform poorly on it.
