After a drama-filled run, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin left and took the LSU job. It was a tough scene for Ole Miss fans, but Kiffin took more money to go to Baton Rouge in hopes of winning a national title.
Now, Kiffin is quickly working to put his coaching staff together. Currently, LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker is a candidate for the Tulane job after Jon Sumrall left for the Florida Gators' opening.
And, if he leaves, that would be a tough blow to the LSU staff.
But, it seems Kiffin is preparing for that to be a reality.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, Kiffin has his target for the DC job.
“LSU and new head coach Lane Kiffin are working to hire a new defensive assistant, sources tell On3. Syracuse co-defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson is in the LSU football operations building on Friday and is being targeted for a role on staff.”
Robinson is a former Texas A&M defensive line coach who went to Syracuse and joined head coach Fran Brown in 2024. But, moving from the ACC to the SEC would be a big bump in pay, most likely, plus being a DC for a national title contender is a step in the right direction for him.
Robinson was even in the building on Friday, so there is a lot of promise to this deal being done and him being brought in to be the new defensive coordinator for the Tigers in what would be a huge hire.
