The Miami football season concluded without a national title. It was a heartbreaking end for Miami, as the Hurricanes were driving the field to take the lead, but the game ended with a Carson Beck interception. After the contest, Beck spoke about the interception.
“For it to end like that is hard. It's really tough, especially to battle the way that we did in the second half. To have a chance to win at the end, it says a lot about us. But to lose it — it really hurts,” Beck told the media, according to David Hale of ESPN.
The Miami quarterback had a solid game against Miami. He completed 19 of 32 passes for 232 yards and a touchdown. He was also protected well, being sacked just once. Still, the pass that will be remembered is the game-sealing interception.
“He's played really good football through the course of the season and his best football toward the end. He's got nothing to be ashamed about,” offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson said. “He'll get the credit he deserves. The people that know will see how good a career he had. He came up a play short in the national championship game, but we came a long way this year, and he had a lot to do with that with his leadership and resilience.”
Beck was a major part of the comeback effort of the Hurricanes. They were down 10-0 at the end of the first half, but scored on their first drive of the third quarter, with the help of a 57-yard touchdown run from Mark Fletcher. After Indiana blocked a punt for a touchdown late in the third quarter, Beck responded by leading Miami on a long touchdown drive to make it a three-point game again.
Still, Indiana responded with their own touchdown. Once again, Beck was up for the challenge, driving Miami 91 yards and ending with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Toney. After the defense held Indiana to a field goal, Miami had a chance to take the lead. Beck drove into Indiana territory and went for the deep ball, but it was intercepted, sealing the game.
“I'm just so grateful to have had the opportunity to play quarterback at this university,” Beck concluded.
After six years of college football, the Miami quarterback will now prepare for his next steps, the NFL Draft. Meanwhile, Miami will look to return to the National Championship in 2026, this time with a new quarterback.
