The Michigan football team will begin their 2023 campaign on Saturday at home against East Carolina football. Michigan is coming into the game ranked #2 in the country, and they have their eyes set on winning a national championship this season. The Wolverines have such a high ranking and such high expectations because of the talent returning from last year's Big Ten title team. Michigan ranks #5 in the country in returning production, and they have a veteran squad for the 2023 season. However, there are also a lot of young guys that haven't played much yet that the staff is excited about. One of those players is DB Keon Sabb.

“Keon Sabb has gone straight to the top,” Jim Harbaugh said on the Inside Michigan Footballradio show this week. “Amazing player who has really come into his own. He did last year on special teams, but we didn’t play him enough. We didn’t play him enough, in my opinion, at safety. He’s gotten a ton of reps, starter-quality player, no question.”

It sounds like we may be seeing a lot more of Sabb this season. One coach that knows him best is defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. Minter will be handling head coaching duties in Michigan football's first game against East Carolina, and he has also been impressed by the young star.

“A couple of the young safeties, Keon Sabb and Zeke Berry are guys that are going to get some run,” Minter said according to an article from bluebyninety.com. “I’m excited about their progress. Basically took a freshman year, played, and got a little taste of it in some of the earlier games. Continued to learn, and continued to get better in the spring. They both have made really big jumps, even since spring, which is exciting, kind of what you expect from younger players.”

Michigan plays UNLV football and Bowling Green football in the two weeks following their week one battle against the Pirates. Not the toughest competition for the Wolverines, so it'll be a good time to get young players some reps.
