The first round of the College Football Playoff (CFP) was full of lopsided victories, but Ohio State football's Jeremiah Smith was easily one of its biggest standouts. The freshman wideout caught six passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns against No. 9 Tennessee in his CFP debut, prompting fans to freak out on social media.

“Jeremiah Smith might be the first WR to go No.1 overall in the draft since 1996,” FanDuel Sportsbook proclaimed. “6 receptions, 103 yards and 2 TDs in his first career CFB playoff game 🤯.”

“It sounds crazy, but right now, depending on which teams will have a top 5 pick, and who needs a QB, he could definitely be a top 3 pick,” @TFNsports said. “He is the same elite, game changer, type of WR like JJ, chase, Julio or megatron. He doesn’t really have a weaknesses and he’s a freshman!”

My first time seeing Jeremiah Smith in person,” The Athletic's David Ubben said. “Reminds me of Travis Hunter in the way that some guys just move at a different speed/power than everybody else on the field. Guy is unreal.”

“If he were eligible, Jeremiah Smith would be competing with Hunter to be the first non-QB drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft,” The Athletic's Dane Brugler replied.

The fact that Smith is already getting Travis Hunter comparisons speaks to his impressive skill set. Most freshmen don't make such an immediate impact for the best schools in college football, but the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder led the No. 8 Buckeyes with 57 catches for 934 yards and 10 scores this year. His receiving efforts also paced the team against the Volunteers on Saturday, as he caught Will Howard's only two touchdown tosses.

On Wednesday, Ohio State will now face No. 1 Oregon at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California in the CFP Quarterfinal. While the Ducks are a formidable foe, the Buckeyes stand a chance against anyone as long as Smith is on the field.
