Though they have a formidable offense, the Alabama Crimson Tide gave up a ridiculous amount of points to Ole Miss on Saturday evening. Alabama won the matchup against Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels 63-48.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will play the Georgia Bulldogs this upcoming Saturday in a top-three clash. Many people will wonder if this performance against Ole Miss is an indicator of how the Georgia game will go for the Bama defense. Regardless of what anyone thinks about that question, it's clear that Nick Saban has a lot of work to do this week to repair the leaks in the Tide's defense.
Luke Robinson and Jimmy Stein on the daily Locked On Bama podcast talked about this Alabama defensive performance as the worst of all time in the history of the program.
Article Continues BelowStein: “That was the worst defensive performance I have ever seen from an Alabama football team. I’m not talking about just the Nick Saban Era but I’m talking about ever. I’m talking about Mike Dubose. I’m talking about Mike Shula. I’m talking about Bill Curry. That was the worst defense I have ever seen an Alabama team play period.
Robinson: And I will say this. The one thing that made it absolutely worse, one hundred percent worse, was that every time they showed Pete Golding on the sidelines, his mouth wasn’t moving, his face was emotionless, and his hands were in his pockets. He needs to get into somebody and tell them that if they do not tackle somebody, they are going to be coming out. There’s no reason to call out this player or that player. I think its safe to say only Josh Jobe and Patrick Surtain played well enough to be considered for the coach’s players of the week on defense. You know what? I’d be okay if the Alabama coaches decided to not have any defensive players of the week from this Alabama defense. We don’t have one.”
