Is Deebo Samuel actually gone the way of the dinosaurs? Of course not. He's not extinct. The South Carolina Gamecocks running back, however, will miss a lot action, according to head coach Will Muschamp.

“We are not certain when he’s coming back. I don’t want to comment much on the status part of it,” Muschamp said, according to The State. “You never know. The surgery went extremely well. [Team orthopedic surgeon Jeff Guy] was extremely pleased with how everything went. We will see what happens. He will be out for an extended period of time.”

That's not exactly a great endorsement.

Every coach claims surgeries go great. It is almost comical at this point whenever anyone comments on another person's surgery. From people calling any surgery “minor” — as if going under any knife is no big deal — to fans calling out players for not toughing it out after surgeries, it is amazing we even ask for updates from anyone anymore.

In case you were unaware, Deebo Samuel had surgery for a fractured left fibula on Sunday. The glimmer of optimism shown by the South Carolina head coach is in stark contract to when the running back originally went out, as he essentially made it seem like the kid was done for the season.

You might not be a fan of the Gamecocks, but may remember him as the talented kid who started South Carolina's season off as well as humanly possible, by taking the opening kickoff of the season 97 yards for a touchdown.
