As the UCLA football program will now be led by Bob Chesney as the new head coach, some believe that massive changes will come with that. While the UCLA football team was led by quarterback Nico Iamaleava last season, the sophomore's familiar face will stay around the program.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, he reported that Iamaleava has “re-signed” with the Bruins after throwing for 1,928 yards to go along with 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 11 games this season.
“UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava has re-signed with the Bruins, [On3 Sports] has learned,” Fawcett wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He threw for 1,928 yards and 13 [touchdowns] this season.”
After the Bruins' regular-season finale in the loss to the USC Trojans, 29-10, Iamaleava would be asked about his future with UCLA and even said at the time that he hadn't thought about it.
“No, I haven’t,” Iamaleava said when asked by USA TODAY Sports. “I was focused on this game and practice.”
Though the Bruins went through turmoil, finishing with a 3-9 record, there was a bunch of turnover with the coaching staff, but with Chesney now taking over, it could be a more focused year for Iamaleava. He would even say then that this past season was a “great learning year” for the California-native.
Confirming the news, Iamaleava would take to Instagram on Monday evening to announce his re-signing to the Bruins and even say, “No place like home,” cementing his return to compete for the program for the foreseeable future.
UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava announced on Instagram that he’ll return to Westwood for the 2026 season, giving Bob Chesney a major piece to build around.

At any rate, Iamaleava will now prepare for his junior season with the UCLA football team as he and the program look to improve after a massively forgettable past season.
