The Nebraska football team has high hopes for this upcoming season, and a big reason why is true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola. Raiola is one of the top players from the 2024 recruiting class and he was originally committed to Georgia. He ended up flipping his commitment over to the Cornhuskers. Nebraska fans got their first glimpse of him recently in the spring game, and that fan base is hoping that he can finally turn the program around.
Nebraska football hasn't been to a bowl game since the 2o16 season. This is a storied program, and they are in a major down period right now. Head coach Matt Rhule is now entering his second season, and Dylan Raiola could help him and the Cornhuskers have a big year.
Matt Rhule recently appeared on the Always College Football podcast, and he was asked about Raiola and his capability to be a starter as a true freshman.
“Well, first of all, he was raised in a football family,” Matt Rhule said. “You start there, right? It's a football family and every conversation in that family, it's always about ball. And when it's about ball, it's about getting better everyday. Dylan, to me, comes in as a young player, but he understands that it's a 24 hour a day deal to be the starting quarterback at a place like Nebraska. I think that background has helped him walk into here in an extremely mature way, and he wants to be a pro. He doesn't wanna just walk in and learn the pass plays, he wants to know how to flip the protections and what are the run checks? He's up early in the morning, he's working at it all the time, so I think what you saw in the spring game, I think you saw a guy that's prepared.”
This season is a big one for Dylan Raiola and Nebraska football
Nebraska football has not been good in a long time, but they haven't been a traditional bad football team. They aren't going out there and getting blown out in every game. In fact, they have been known for getting themselves into position to win football games, and then they collapse at the end of games and lose their lead. There's no doubt about it, the Cornhuskers are close. Can this season finally be the year that they get over the hump?
Dylan Raiola is giving this fan base confidence. They haven't had a QB like him in a long time, and he has the potential to do big things at Nebraska.
