The screenwriter of Dune and Killers of the Flower Moon, Eric Roth, told the Script Apart podcast that he's currently developing a Kennedy series at Netflix akin to The Crown.

That's good news for fans of the royal drama which recently ended the first part of its sixth season.

“We hope to have a version of The Crown but with the Kennedy family and particularly John. I've done one version, now I'm just dealing with notes,” Roth said.

“Some things people agree with, some that people disagree with. It's the same with anything. I don't know if I'll write more than the pilot. Maybe one more episode. I think that it could be a fabulous show,” he continued.

Roth's Kennedy series is based on Frederik's Logevall's 2020 book JFK: Coming Of Age In The American Century, 1917-1956, which covers the former president's family background. It follows JFK's childhood up to the early years of his political career.

“The book is one of pure surprises,” Roth stated.

“It's a wonderful history of the Kennedy family from 1915 to basically the 60s. It's very thoughtful and very erudite. It has a kinda elegant sense of Peter Morgan's genius seen with The Crown. I'm not pretending I'm him, but I'm trying to emulate, as they say, his elegance, his look on history, and also how he writes… He's as good a writer as I know,” he added.

The comparison to The Crown is fair as both detail the lives of two of the most famous families in the world. The Crown often received criticism regarding its creative choices of how it portrays in fiction the very real members of the royal family.

The JFK series will undoubtedly be receiving the same critique. The Kennedys are often called American Royalty and JFK's presidency has been almost mythologized with some calling it American Camelot.

Logevall's books is part one of a two-volume series. The second one will most likely detail JFK's death and legacy.
