The betting aspects of the NBA season are still in effect, even if the 2019-20 season has been suspended, perhaps even for several months. Bettors have taken a leap of faith with the Brooklyn Nets, according to Frankie Taddeo of Sports Illustrated — considering the lengthy suspension of the season could be enough for the return of Kevin Durant, who has missed the last nine months with a torn Achilles.
Some are expecting the NBA season to resume in mid-to-late June, at which point the playoffs could get started by mid-to-late July.
There is also the potential for the NBA to cancel the remainder of the regular season and move forward with the playoffs at a later date, which would leave the Nets qualified with the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference and drawing a matchup with the second-seeded Toronto Raptors.
A Durant-laced Brooklyn Nets team would surely swing the scales, risk bettors have taken, even at 100/1 odds.
Should Durant return by then, the Nets would offer tremendous value with a superstar of his caliber on the floor. While his partner Kyrie Irving will likely still be on the shelf with a shoulder injury that ruled him out for the season, putting a superstar-level scorer like Durant changes the odds tremendously, and several bettors are chomping at the bit to cash in big.
