The Brooklyn Nets solidified the back end of their roster Sunday, fully guaranteeing the contracts of Trendon Watford and Harry Giles. Jan. 7 is the last day NBA teams can cut players before their contracts become fully guaranteed.

Watford has been productive in limited playing time after leaving the Portland Trail Blazers this summer to sign with the Nets for the minimum. The 6-foot-9 point forward, who is just 22 years old, has posted career-high marks in points, rebounds and assists per 36 minutes this season. Watford is averaging 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 53.7 percent shooting in 13.6 minutes per game.

Giles signed with Brooklyn this offseason after not appearing in an NBA game for over two years. The former No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2016 has made 10 appearances for the Nets, averaging 4.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 5.9 minutes per game. His lone non-garbage time appearance came during a shorthanded loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Dec. 27, during which he posted one point and four rebounds in seven minutes.

Brooklyn has no open standard roster spots following the pair of transactions. The team has one two-way spot open after waiving shooting guard Armoni Brooks on Saturday. Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn said the decision from general manager Sean Marks was aimed at maintaining flexibility.

“Just talking with Sean, the reason for it was to create some flexibility for us,” Vaughn said. “AB is an incredible human being, a great family man. I loved having him in the locker room… He’ll be in this league. Just for us going forward, organizationally, it just gives us some flexibility.”
