Brooklyn Nets big man Jarrett Allen definitely has one of the most recognizable hairdos in the NBA today. In a recent interview with Kelly Whiteside of The New York Times, the 6-foot-11 center discussed the story (or lack thereof) behind his signature afro.

According to Allen, there actually isn't much to say about his eye-catching hairstyle. To the 20-year-old, it simply is what it is.

“I’m not trying to show it off, show that I can make it round,” Allen said. “I’m not even wearing it because it’s old school. It’s just how it is. I’m just wearing it because it’s my hair. I’ve had it for five years. I’m in too deep now.”

This does nothing to appease the multitude of common folk who have used all sorts of hair products just to try and make their hair look half as cool as that of Allen. However, it appears that the former Texas standout's do is as all-natural as they come.

As a matter of fact, when asked how much time he puts in on a daily basis to maintain his standout look, Allen shared how his hair requires only 45 seconds of maintenance every morning.

For the benefit of those who may be wondering, the interviewer asked Allen what shampoo he was using, to which the promising youngster responded: “Herbal Essence.”

Allen's afro appears to be working wonders for the sophomore, as he is in the midst of a breakout campaign this term. Jarrett Allen is currently averaging 12.4 points on 58.6 percent shooting, 8.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.6 steals, 1.6 blocks, and only 1.1 turnovers in 27.4 minutes of action. The former 22nd overall pick has played a vital role for the Nets this season, with the team currently holding the ninth spot in the East.
