Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson feels the franchise “dodged a bullet” with Kyrie Irving’s injury diagnosis.

An MRI on Irving's right knee revealed a medial ligament sprain. The All-Star will be re-evaluated in one week:

Irving has played in only 20 games this season for the Nets because of a serious shoulder injury which kept him sidelined for a while. The 27-year-old is averaging 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists while shooting 47.8 percent from the field, 39.4 percent from beyond the arc and 92.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Nets, after losing to the Washington Wizards on Saturday, are 21-27 on the season. They are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. Brooklyn will clearly be cautious with Irving moving forward since knee injuries aren't to be taken lightly and Kyrie has a history of knee issues.

Spencer Dinwiddie will most likely replace Irving in the starting lineup like he did when Uncle Drew was out with the shoulder injury. Dinwiddie is putting up 21.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.5 assists on the season. He's also shooting 42.1 percent from the floor, 31.4 percent from the 3-point line and 77.2 percent from the charity stripe.

The Nets are hosting Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns on Monday. Brooklyn will look to begin their second post-Irving run this season on a high note.
