The Brooklyn Nets have been without the services of third-year point guard D'Angelo Russell for the last several weeks.

There yet to be any deadline set in place for his return to the court since undergoing knee surgery. However, it appears that Russell may have told Boston Celtics All-Star point guard on New Year's Eve that he will return in two weeks.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson had stated that Russell was on track to make his return but did not commit to a timetable for his return. On top of that, Irving did not divulge what the Nets guard told him immediately after Sunday's game.

Brooklyn's season has continued to go south, but the return of Russell could be a huge step in the right direction. Prior to his injury, the 21-year-old had shown to be a reliable scorer averaging career highs with 20.9 points on 46.3 percent shooting from the field with 5.7 assists in 12 games played.

In his absence, the Nets have relied on Spencer Dinwiddie to hold down the starting duties. The fourth-year guard is putting up career-best numbers with 12.4 points with 6.5 assists in 27.o minutes per contest. In fact, Dinwiddie has started the last 23 games where he has scored 20-plus points seven times, dishing out 10 or more assists assists four times, and recorded six or more assists in 21 of 25 starts.

Nonetheless, the imminent return of Russell should bring back more buzz and excitement to the Nets.
