It's been an interesting year for the Brooklyn Nets as they continue to fight for their playoff hopes. Kyrie Irving hasn't been playing home games due to not being vaccinated. Adam Silver mentioned it as a problem at one point, but New York City Mayor Eric Adams touched on the subject on Monday.

According to Malika Andrews, Adams claims that “it would send the wrong message” to allow Kyrie Irving to play in Brooklyn. New York City employees must comply with the rules and regulations if they are not vaccinated. Considering Irving plays for the Nets, he is technically a New York City employee. For that reason, it doesn't sound like Eric Adams is going to change his mind soon.

Regardless, this has all been an extremely confusing time for the Nets. Unvaccinated players on opposing teams are allowed to play in Brooklyn, but because Irving lives in the city, he must follow the rules. It becomes even more confusing considering Kyrie Irving is allowed to attend Brooklyn games as a spectator but is not allowed to actually play.

It's an interesting situation. Kyrie Irving could just get the vaccine and not have to deal with these odd rules. At the same time, he can't be forced to receive a vaccination he doesn't want. At the end of the day, it's just another ordeal the Nets have to work with as the organization hopes to get back on track after trading James Harden.

We'll see how the rest of the season plays out. Hopefully, the Nets can kick it into gear and make the playoffs without participating in the play-in game. For now, keep a close eye on this team, as Ben Simmons continues to get acclimated with the rest of the roster.
