Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash confirmed that initial X-rays on Kyrie Irving's injured ankle were negative, but he admitted that he has no idea about the severity of the injury and if he'll be able to even return in the series.
As Nash noted, all they can do is cross their fingers and hope for the best with regards to the injury. The Nets coach is also holding out hope that it isn't as severe as what it looked like in the replays and that Irving won't need to be sidelined.
“I have no idea what’s going to happen with Ky in the coming days. We’ll cross our fingers and hope that it’s better than—I don’t know, better than what?—better than missing the next game,” Nash said, per Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today.
According to Rachel Nichols of ESPN, Kyrie Irving left Fiserv Forum in a walking boot and crutches, which is something that will spark more concerns for Brooklyn fans. The veteran playmaker is set to undergo further testing and get treatment before Game 5 of the Nets' series with the Milwaukee Bucks, though that is certainly a short time for recovery for an ankle sprain.
Given the uncertainty of Irving's injury, Steve Nash knows he needs to prepare as if the champion point guard will be missing a game or two in the series with the Bucks. There is still concern regarding James Harden's status amid his recovery from a hamstring issue, but Nash already said he won't rush the shooting guard back despite their latest injury woe.
The Nets are facing a lot of questions now that their two stars are down. In the end, however, only Nash has the answer to those.
