The quagmire that the Brooklyn Nets find themselves in is one with a whole lot of nuance. One domino has led to another, leading up to this moment with Kyrie Irving on the verge of an exit and Kevin Durant contemplating following suit.

According to NBA reporter Logan Murdock, there was at least one piece of the exit puzzle that went under the radar from a few weeks back. In a recent appearance on The Void podcast with Kevin O'Connor, Murdock detailed one Nets move that may have nudged Kevin Durant just a little bit more towards the other direction:

“Here's another thing that happened. The Nets let go of Adam Harrington, who was really close with Kevin. He was one of Kevin's guys. And that really had a big ripple effect on just how Kevin feels about this right now. So he is still in figure it out mode but there is some fire to that smoke. He's kind of reevaluating where he stands with this,” detailed Murdock.

The Nets hired Adam Harrington back in 2016 just as Kevin Durant's OKC Thunder were in the thick of things in the Western Conference Finals against the Golden State Warriors. He was a former shooting coach for the Thunder as well as KD's own PT.

Adam Harrington served both as assistant coach and director for player development for the Nets prior to being let go by the front office, who reportedly felt the need to shake things up given the early exits in back-to-back seasons.

Kyrie Irving may be the big name trying to leave the Nets, but with James Harden forcing his way out last season and other figures like Harrington already gone, the writing may be on the wall for Kevin Durant.
