The New England Patriots recently opened their 2021 season with a narrow 17-16 loss against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 of their campaign. After being inches away from winning the game, Bill Belichick and his squad will surely go back to the drawing board and aim to come out with a better result for Week 2. In this post, we'll be making our Patriots Week 2 predictions ahead of their game against the New York Jets.

In fact, they are in a good position to do so as they will face another division rival in the rebuilding New York Jets for their second tilt of the season. Robert Saleh already began his pro head coaching career and ended his debut with a 19-14 defeat against the Carolina Panthers. After suffering tight losses, both teams will certainly be hungry to earn their first win this time around.

Here are four bold predictions for the Week 2 encounter between the Patriots and the Jets:

Patriots Week 2 Predictions

4. New England's defense will show out against their opponents.

Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and his men did a respectable job in their previous game against the Dolphins. Though the defense was able to hold their ground, the team's offensive unit failed to put up points across the board, thus handing them a tight loss.

This time around, the Patriots have a chance to bounce back as they will match up against a less talented Jets squad. The team's pass-rushing unit, in particular, can certainly dominate New York's shaky offensive line that will miss the services of starting left tackle Mekhi Becton who was sidelined due to a dislocated knee cap.

Players like Lawrence Guy, Davon Godchaux, and Deatrich Wise Jr. are all expected to step up and deliver the goods in the trenches come Sunday. If they get to do so then Jets QB Zack Wilson will surely have a long game ahead of him on his home turf.

3. Both WR Nelson Agholor and RB Damien Harris will continue to be the top options on offense.

Back in Week 1, a newcomer in wide receiver Nelson Agholor was able to make an instant impact on the team as he led the receiving corps with 72 yards on five receptions to go with a touchdown scored. Meanwhile, the Patriots' RB1 in Damien Harris also made his presence felt as he rushed 100 yards on 23 touches to headline the ground game against the Dolphins.

Despite having good numbers in Week 1, the Alabama product in Harris did commit a costly fumble in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter which hindered them from capitalizing on a scoring opportunity. Heading to Week 2, the two offensive weapons are poised to lead their respective units once more and contribute in the scoring department against the Jets.

2. Mac Jones will throw at least two passing touchdowns in the game.

Rookie quarterback Mac Jones had an applaudable NFL debut in Week 1 as a full-time starter for the Patriots. He concluded his first game in the pros by racking up 281 yards on 29-of-39 passes completed to go with a passing touchdown.

After seeing the shortage of production from their offensive players in Week 1, more weapons are expected to step up and score points in the endzone for the Patriots this time around. Aside from Agholor and Harris, Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, and Kendrick Bourne should also perform in order to allow Jones to tally at least two passing touchdowns on Sunday.

1. The Patriots will dominate the Jets on a 24-10 decision and secure their first win of the season.

Looking back, the Patriots almost came up with a victory against the Dolphins but their own lapses on both ends of the field ultimately hindered them from doing so. Certainly enough, Bill Belichick will make the necessary adjustments in order to come out with a better outing on Sunday.

To put it simply, the Patriots won't allow themselves to have a sloppy game against the Jets and ultimately fall in a 0-2 hole. If New England gets to fix their errors and run their schemes properly then they will certainly be in a good position to dominate their opponents and score the first W of their 2021 campaign.
