It has been more than 20 years since The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring has premiered. Since then the franchise helmed by Peter Jackson has gone on to win a bunch of Academy Awards, including Best Picture, garner a lot of acclaim from fans and critics alike, and earn big at the same time. And even though the franchise hit a low point when the Hobbit Trilogy came out, the new Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power promises to open a lot of doors and expand everything to unimaginable heights, potentially to that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a trailer released recently, the second teaser for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power gives fans a better view of the series' plot, characters, and the world they're living in. As compared to the Peter Jackson films which were set in the Third Age, this Amazon Prime series deals with the world of men and elves during the Second Age before Sauron has forged the One Ring.

Along with the Dark Lord himself, LOTR fans will also see new actors take on well-known roles in The Rings of Power. Morfydd Clark is taking center stage in the trailer by playing a younger version of Galadriel, who was portrayed by Cate Blanchett in the films. Meanwhile, Robert Aramayo is stepping into the shoes of Hugo Weaving by playing Elrond.

And while there are familiar characters being used in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the world it's set in is vastly different from the one most people know of. What's surprising from the trailer itself is that the series gives everyone a glimpse of J.R.R. Tolkien's First Age, the era in which the Elves and Men were born. This could potentially open the door for the franchise to explore that part of Tolkien's book and pave the way for countless opportunities.

Of course, for that to happen, The Rings of Power must succeed and exceed its record-shattering $462 million budget for the first season alone. If it does, the way to explore Tolkien's First Age, an era with more storytelling opportunities than The Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit, and even The Rings of Power combined, is very open for the brains behind the franchise to do so. Until then, fans only have to wait for September 2 to finally see if all the hype for this Amazon Prime series is truly worth it.
