The New Orleans Pelicans have invited veteran Robert Sacre to their training camp to compete for a roster spot, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The 7-foot center has spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. After the team signed former Cleveland Cavaliers big man Timofey Mozgov to a lucrative contract, Sacre ultimately became expendable.

Sacre owns career averages of 4.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game, appearing in a total of 189 games. If he is signed in New Orleans, the team can utilize his size in rebounding and providing a presence inside the paint while relieving their starting center, Omer Asik.

The 27 year old has not been able to make a significant impact during his first four years in the league as he rode the bench most of the time. Should he make it to the Pelicans' roster, he gets a chance to resurrect his career and prove to everyone that he belongs in the NBA.
