It was yet another disappointing season surrounding New York Giants football. They finished 4-12 and third in the NFC East. This year was chalked up as a developmental season for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. There will be plenty of changes in the Giants' franchise and it began with hiring new head coach Joe Judge.

There has been plenty of players for New York who have not reached expectations over the years. Heading into 2020, the Giants will have some high hopes for some rookies who improved this season. Here are three players who seemed to get better throughout the 2019 season.

3. Jabril Peppers, S

Fans were not happy with Peppers early on in the season. It could have been because of his play or because he was in the deal that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland. Regardless of the reason, fans had nothing to complain about down the stretch of the season.

Peppers is from New Jersey. Being traded to the Giants was a homecoming for him and he looked like a player that is going to be productive in the secondary. He finished third on the team in solo tackles and forced three fumbles in 2019. It took some adjusting but once Peppers got used to his new home, he returned to form.

2. Deandre Baker, CB

Coming into the league as a quarterback is viewed as the toughest thing for a rookie. Playing cornerback is a close second. Going from covering college wide receivers to pros is a huge difference. Early on in the season, Baker was getting exposed on a weekly basis.

As the season went on, Baker got his legs under him and began to look like the player that the Giants drafted in the first round. He finished with 61 tackles in his rookie season and gave the Giants hope for 2020.

1. Darius Slayton, WR

Slayton turned into Jones' favorite target this season. He had a breakout game in Week 10 against the New York Jets where he caught 10 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Slayton finished with 48 catches for 740 yards and eight touchdowns. He led the team in both receiving yards and touchdowns.

The Giants traded away Beckham while Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram have dealt with a large number of injuries. The receiving core in New York has not been strong but the emergence of Slayton makes it look a little better. He will enter 2020 as a huge part of the offense for the Giants and Jones in his second season.
