The Pittsburgh Steelers are in an interesting place in this upcoming draft. Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is 39 years old and has declined steadily for the past few seasons. There are questions about what the Steelers will do in the post-Roethlisberger years. The 2021 NFL Draft provides a chance for the Steelers to find a replacement for the franchise quarterback.

There are likely to be some very solid quarterbacks to fall to the second round. The top five quarterbacks are pretty much set-in-stone first-rounders. Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields are all going to hear their names called in the first round. However, there are some great talents that could still be available for the Steelers when they get their turn to pick. Kellen Mond and Kyle Trask are the two most prominent names here.

Despite this, the Steelers are pretty clear that they do not see this as an option. Sportswriter John Clayton sees this as a redundant move as well. Clayton, in an interview on 93.7 the Fan, gave his thoughts about the situation.

Via Steelers Depot:

“No, they want to win now. You worry about the quarterback position later. They've got Ben Roethlisberger. They do have a young quarterback in Dwayne Haskins. They still have two other quarterbacks. So I think it would be almost useless to do something like that.”

Clayton is one of the more prominent NFL reporters in America and his word can go a long way. He tends to know what he is talking about and he has good intel. The Steelers made a savvy move to get Dwayne Haskins when no one would touch him with a 10-foot pole, but there could still be some utility to drafting a quarterback if the one Pittsburgh really wants is there.
