All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman is set to hit the open market for the first time in his career after the Seattle Seahawks decided to release him on Friday morning. This has immediately put him in the unique position of potentially becoming one of the most sought-out players in free agency.

Through his first seven years in the league, Sherman has developed into one of the premier talents at his position. According to Ian Wharton of Bleacher Report, there are some early indications that the 29-year-old's market value could see him range around $7 million on offers he will receive from various teams.

What could also come into place as stated is his current recovery from a significant leg injury after he tore his Achilles tendon last November. It is an ailment that could alter his career path with it limiting his effectiveness on the field along with the possibility other injuries could arise if not handled correctly.

Sherman had also undergone additional minor surgery to remove a bone spur from his foot, but he has stated that he expects to be back on the field by June. Although there is a strong level of confidence from the 29-year-old about the situation, it's hard to simply brush this aside.

He is expected to have several teams looking to acquire his services such as the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys. Meanwhile, the Seahawks can't entirely be ruled out as the team is reportedly still interested in bringing him back at a reduced pay. Sherman has made it clear that he has his eyes on playing for a contending team that has a strong quarterback under center, which several of these teams in need of secondary help already possess.

All of this could quickly shape up to be a highly competitive market before the free agency period even begins.
