Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson was reportedly arrested on Sunday. The former Minnesota Vikings star was arrested and booked with felony domestic violence, according to TMZ, in an incident that occurred at LAX in Los Angeles.

According to the report, Peterson and his wife Ashley Peterson were flying from Los Angeles to Houston after having attended a DIRECTV Super Bowl event in LA the previous evening.  The report says the plane had to turn around and return to the gate after a verbal and physical altercation between a man and a woman. TMZ's sources indicated that the woman, who was later confirmed to be Ashley Peterson, sustained a small mark on her face as a result of the altercation. The former NFL player was reportedly taken into custody, while Ashley stayed on the flight and remained on board with the rest of the passengers before the flight departed for Houston as planned.

A representative for Peterson released a statement via TMZ on Sunday, who is expected to be released from custody on Sunday.

“Earlier today Adrian and his wife Ashley had a verbal argument on a flight, and he was removed from the plane. This is a private misunderstanding between husband and wife and we anticipate it will all be resolved shortly.”

This isn't Peterson's first run-in with the law. Peterson notoriously served a one-year suspension from the NFL after he was charged with child abuse in 2014 for using a switch to spank his then-4-year-old son. He was handed a two-year probation sentence, was fined $4,000, and was sentenced to do 80 hours of community service, in addition to his suspension from the NFL.
