As video circulated Monday of Jacob Blake, a Black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin, being shot by police officers, members of the NFL community shared their reactions to the latest viral footage of police brutality against a Black person in America.

Blake was opening the door of a parked car after attempting to break up a fight between two women when police officers approached and fired seven shots into Blake's back in front of his children. Blake is currently in serious condition at a Milwaukee hospital. The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating the shooting.

New Orleans Saints stars Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara were among the football players to express their outrage via social media.

“Attempted murder.. I pray he survives,” Kamara tweeted.

“Stop killing unarmed black people,” wrote Thomas.

Another Saints star, Cameron Jordan, questioned the extreme use of force from the police officers against Jacob Blake:

“3 officers, 1 male? And the only way to subdue 1 man was to fire 7 rounds…” Jordan posted.

Kansas City Chiefs safety, Tyrann Mathieu, asked the same question:

“Damn they shot that man 7 times…. why can’t 3 officers subdue one male? I truly need answers…” he wrote.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said he stands “against excessive use of force and immediate escalation when engaging with Black Wisconsinites,” and the officers were placed on administrative leave.

The state's Department of Justice said it “aims to provide a report of the incident to the prosecutor within 30 days” to make a decision on filing charges.

The shooting of Blake comes nearly exactly three months after the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers.
