The Antonio Brown saga continues. Antonio Brown was a talented wide receiver in the NFL who was held back due to his off-field antics, which have continued into his retirement. The Times Union reports that former NFL star wide receiver Antonio Brown has filed for bankruptcy.
According to paperwork filed on May 15th in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of Florida, Brown owes nearly $3 million to eight different creditors. Brown has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which will involve a court-supervised reorganization of his assets and liabilities.
$1.2 million of Brown's debt is owed by court judgment to Anton Tumanov, a moving-truck driver who successfully sued Brown for an assault and battery altercation in 2020.
Brown owes other debts including money owed on a credit card as well as funds owed to marking and law firms.
Antonio Brown owns his own media company, CTESPN Network. His own network confirmed the bankruptcy filing on social media in a bizarre post.
“NFL legend Antonio Brown has filed for bankruptcy today,” the post read. “He will be a first ballot Hall of Famer in 2027. He will be releasing new music this summer. He is also the founder of the most trusted source in all of sports.
“The generational run continues.”
Antonio Brown overachieved as a 2010 sixth-round pick who played for 12 years in the NFL at a high level. Brown made over $88 million as a player, but he currently claims to have less than $50,000 in assets in his bankruptcy filling.
How the mighty have fallen.
Antonio Brown still popping up in the news due to wild comments about Caitlin Clark, Tom Brady
Brown has continued to periodically pop up in the NFL news cycle after his retirement. Most recently, he has made shocking claims about the NFL and Tom Brady as well as inappropriate comments about WNBA star Caitlin Clark.
In a recent interview with Jason Whitlock, Brown repeatedly referred to himself in the third person and made some crazy claims about his short stint with the New England Patriots in 2019.
“AB played the Patriots game in 2019, one game,” Brown said, referring to himself from a third person point of view. “Who led the team? I just got there (during) Week 2.”
He then went on to suggest that the NFL did not want him to succeed with Tom Brady and that's why he left the team.
“AB led the team right?” Brown continued. “Then the next week, I figured everything out. The NFL don't want me to win with Tom Brady, especially not on the Patriots. You know why? I'm a Steeler.”
In reality, Brown was facing sexual assault allegations at the time, which was widely reported as the reason he was let go from the Patriots.
Brown has also taken aim at WNBA star Caitlin Clark over the past couple of months. He made inappropriate comments about Clark following her selection by the Indiana Fever. Brown continued his tirade by quoting an Outkick post that covered him being blocked by Clark on social media.
