Country superstar Carrie Underwood and the NFL are under fire after a group of songwriters sued them, along with NBC, for copyright infringement. According to the lawsuit that was filed in Manhatten federal court, Underwood stole a song and slightly changed it for the introduction to Sunday night football last year.

Heidi Merrill of Newport Beach, California put “Game On” on the internet over two years ago, and claims that's where Underwood got the idea for the song.

The NFL and NBCUniversal Media LLC declined to comment while Carrie Underwood representatives didn't immediately comment.

According to the lawsuit, Merrill pitched the song to Underwood's team in 2017 in Nashville. In an email, the producer for Underwood told her they were going to pass.

The lawsuit claimed that the song that introduced 17 NFL Sunday night games through the season beginning in September 2018 “is substantially — even strikingly — similar, if not identical,” to the song Underwood's team had rejected.

It's unclear what exactly Merrill and her group are trying to get out of the lawsuit but if they win they will probably be in line for a very big cash payout.

Below is the original song that Merrill and her group wrote followed by the one that Underwood and her crew performed on Sunday night football.
