EA Sports has added a notable feature for Madden 21 with quarterback Colin Kaepernick making his return to the video game franchise. The developers have revealed where they feel he stacks up against some of the other quarterbacks in the NFL.

EA gave Kaepernick an 81 overall rating after pegging him as “one of the top free agents in football and a starting-caliber quarterback”, via The Undefeated:

Kaepernick's 81 overall rating puts him in the upper half of starting quarterbacks in Madden. Among the notable 17 signal-callers that scored worse than him are Tennessee Titans' Ryan Tannehill (80), Las Vegas Raiders' Derek Carr (79), New England Patriots' Cam Newton (78), Arizona Cardinals' Kyler Murray (77), and Los Angeles Rams' Jared Goff (76).

Not only does Madden have Kaepernick above the bulk of the NFL's starting quarterbacks, he is also on the same tier as Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger (81), Minnesota Vikings' Kirk Cousins (82) and Indianapolis Colts' Philip Rivers (82). It is safe to say that the creators think quite highly of his skill set.

EA caught plenty of flak when they removed Kaepernick's name from the Madden 19 soundtrack, however, they quickly put it back after being called out by artists like Big Sean and YG. It is clear that they have maintained their efforts to ensure that he is rightfully represented in the video game.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the NFL after rumors surfaced regarding their false interest in having teams do their due diligence in Kaepernick this offseason. Their decision to cast him out from the league in 2016 is still in effect to this day as he remains a free agent going into the 2020 NFL season.
