Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders is not happy at players who chose to opt out of the 2020 NFL season.

In a Twitter post, the 52-year old slammed all players who opted out of their respective campaigns, noting that the league will continue and play the season with or without them.

“All Players OPTING out in all sports PLEASE BELIEVE the game will go on without u. This is a business & don’t u EVER forget that. There’s NO ONE that’s bigger than the game itself. Only the ref, umps & officials are that important that u can’t play without them. NOT YOU!” the former NFL star said.

Deion Sanders seems to be missing the point of the opt outs. Most, if not all, of the players who chose not to play the season did so not to make a statement but to protect themselves and their families from the deadly coronavirus that is ravaging the country.

Moreover, it is worth noting that NFL guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif of the Kansas City Chiefs opted to sit out the season in order to serve the frontlines. At this time, people helping the medical frontliners is much more important than playing a sport.

While it is true that the NFL is a business and it will move on even with some players opting out, athletes should not be condemned for choosing not to play in these trying times. After all, the current situation is bigger than football, or any other sport in that regard.
