Legendary hip-hop producer Dr. Dre pledged his allegiance to Colin Kaepernick by posting a photo of him and the NFL free agent kneeling together.

Dr. Dre captioned the photo “Defiant,” perhaps in reference to the producer's four-part HBO documentary series entitled “The Defiant Ones.” The series focuses on the career of Dr. Dre and his partnership with top music executive Jimmy Iovine.

To recall, Kaepernick made headlines in 2016 when he started kneeling during the national anthem at the beginning of games. He made the decision in protest of the racial injustices that have been hounding the country for years. Kap's actions were mirrored by several NFL players and athletes from other sports as well.

However, Kaepernick's antics were not well-received by the NFL. After that season, Kaepernick became a free agent and has since been unsigned. Analysts believe that this was the league's way of silencing the quarterback.

Despite this, Kap has remained a key fixture in the battle against racial injustice. Over the years since being booted out of the NFL, Kaepernick has donated to charitable causes, appeared in talks, and has partnered with politicians and other institutions which support his cause.

Recently, after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers, Colin Kaepernick has re-entered the public consciousness. The NFL, too, has seemingly backpedaled from its neutral stance and is now in support of its players speaking out. For Kaepernick, this might signal a return to the pro football scene.
